"The Loureiro Casa da Bouça 2020 is the adventure of Fojo in Loureiro in Vinho Verde, with vines planted in 2008 in the sub-region of Sousa. It is very dry (less than half a gram of residual sugar and 7.5 total acidity) and 10.7% alcohol. Bright and crisp, this is another Vinhos Verdes from the producer that offers that bracing acidity that many love in the region. It has power but not as much concentration as its brother, the blend. It's not unusual for the Loureiro to be lighter, of course, but this one could have used a little more mid-palate presence. The 10,200 bottles were produced by winemaker-owner Margarida Serôdio Borges (of Fojo)."
"This article presents the beginnings in our pages of Margarida Borges' adventure in Vinho Verde. The property is Casa da Bouça, on the right bank of the Sousa River, in the region of Lousada. There are 10 hectares of vineyards with different plots and different ages. They are all wines of very small production and very dry, without sparkle. It's fun to see new wines and new companies. They have a tendency towards pure power as a style. Some may even border on stridency. We'll see if they can acquire some balance with a year or two in the cellar. It is possible. There is a lot of potential here. As fun as the Vinhos Verdes are, the star is obviously the Fojo. This iconic red is brilliant."
