Chis wine is protected by an anti-fraud system

Brownish-red color with nuances.

Clean, envoluted perfume, intensity and showing some complexity, some tobacco and charcoal notes, this then adds a layer of acidity.

Not particularly fleshy, but plenty of tannin.

Description

Vinification:

Made exclusively from the estate's own vineyards, 4 hectares planted in 1986. Aged in large "balseiros" oak barrels for 19 months.

Grape varieties:

Of mixed varieties, where the most planted variety is Tinta Roriz.

Wine for aging: 2019 - 2033

Ideal serving temperature:

It should be served at a temperature of 16ºC to 18ºC.

Food and wine pairing:

This wine is a fine accompaniment to red meats, roast beef and grilled meats.

"Quinta do Fojo 2016 " is the new brand that has just been labelled " Quinta do Fojo ", as opposed to "Fojo" or "Vinha do Fojo". This is the second vintage, a blend of grape varieties from younger vines (1986), in particular Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesa, Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional. Aged for 19 months in large, used French casks, it has an alcohol content of 14.4%. We've seen it before, but now it's on the market. Whereas the 2015 sometimes seemed thin, even if it was anything but, this one adds a layer of depth. It seems fuller on the palate. As I said last time, this is a fuller wine than the 2015, I've re-evaluated that too. With a further year in bottle, they have separated a little more, the perceptible balance at least giving the impression of being a little richer, as previously stated. Both have good structure. This wine can certainly age. You can approach it now, but another year in the cellar would allow it to progress. 7,300 bottles were produced (the aim is to go up to around 30,000 in a few years)."

"One of the Douro's most exceptional and fanatical small producers, Fojo has finally produced an affordable, more accessible wine (called " Quinta do Fojo "). Of course, it's still a wine from owner Margarida Borges, and she doesn't do things by halves. So there's still structure and aging potential. I also took a look at the 2015 vintage and the top-level 2017 too, but she hasn't decided yet whether it would be Vinha do Fojo or Fojo (her classification system)...
